Get trolleyed!
Okay, so Urban Dictionary rather charmingly defines the term trolleyed as “to be completely and utterly munted or spazzled outta your mind.”
About 35 years ago I could do that for a tenner and I was a better drinker in those days too. Beer was less than a pound a pint and I could even have a cigarette with it. I did have the occasional episode of trolley surfing back in those days and I can testify that supermarket trolleys are really not good for riding in, unless you want to hurt yourself.
Urban surfing is not the only use that these trolleys get after they have finished their day job. It seems that creative types have been using them for all sorts of things other than shopping, from mounting machine guns to client monitors or laptops. The internet is full of images of shopping trolley abuse.
I am a firm believer in using the correct tool for a job and in the case of the machine gun this should obviously be mounted on a Toyota Hilux Ute (pickup) and the client monitor / laptop… Well, let me explain.
Client monitors by definition are to be looked at by your client. Now how impressed will they be if you wheel out a Morrisons trolley with a monitor balanced precariously on top? It’s not a great impression and it’s also risky (have you ever priced up one of our monitors? They are not a cheap item to replace, that’s for sure).
The sensible amongst you (perhaps I should say those with enough budget) tend to use Waitrose trolleys, no hang on - that’s wrong. Magliners - that’s the ticket. Those with budget tend to use Magliners. These are a far safer and far more professional than the supermarket option but do still require the monitors to be just “balanced” on top, a bit like this:
I think we will all agree that the second image is a better attempt. Note the ratchet strap to secure the monitors, safe but not exactly professional looking.
I don’t know if it’s because we have spotted this as an issue or if we have just had to replace one too many monitors but our resident MacGyver, Renos, has been playing with his lathe again and came up with a solution and I must say it’s rather elegant and very well thought through.
Designed to hold a monitor securely to either a junior or senior Magliner, our system is a one-off. Custom built in house, bespoke, designer even revolutionary you pick the adjective. Renos has made a stunning job of this and I’m sure you are all going to love using it.
Even the brackets are adorned with a selection of mounting holes (like a cheese plate) perfect to mount any accessories you may fancy (like a mug holder).
Renos, I’m giving you a 10 out of 10 for the BCR ( (Bruce’s Coolness Rating). Well done!
