New In: Olympus OM Zuiko Lenses
Pixipixel’s camera division has now received another highly awaited beautiful addition to our range of rehoused vintage lenses – the Olympus OM Zuiko.
Zuiko: ‘Light of the Gods’
Starting with the fascinating name ‘Zuiko’ which translates to ‘light of the gods’, and design by the legendary Olympus camera engineer Yoshihisa Maitani, these lenses promise a lot.
The Olympus OM Zuiko originated in Japan in the 1970s and became widely acclaimed for their high quality and remarkable imaging power matching and surpassing the more illustrious competition of the era. The Zuiko lenses are incredibly small and lightweight and built to a very high standard with solid designs and excellent coatings.
Rehousing & Optics
Our Olympus OM Zuiko lenses have been rehoused for cinematography by Whitepoint Optics, a Helsinki-based firm specialising in adapting vintage lenses to modern standards for cinema use.
The Zuiko lenses cover full frame, have very consistent f/stops for photographic lenses and have a range of aesthetic qualities comprising vintage and modern.
They are sharp and have plenty of contrast but with very pleasing bokeh and fantastic flares.
The 50mm f/1.2 and 55mm f/1.2 have very different looks. The 50mm being the newer and higher quality version, which matches the rest of the set, and the 55mm being the more vintage option with lower contrast, and wilder bokeh. Wide open is a great option for more expressive and dream like images.
Focal Lengths
We have acquired seventeen lenses which will comprise our Olympus OM Zuiko sets with focal lengths ranging from 18mm to 200mm, supplemented with two Olympus Pen-f lenses (60mm & 70mm) and two Macros (50mm and 90mm). Most of the lenses have a front diameter of 95mm, with the 18mm and 180mm being 114mm.
